About LaPorte.News
LaPorte.News is an independent local news outlet covering LaPorte County government, development, infrastructure, and taxpayer issues. Our motto is simple: Where Questions Get Answers.
This site exists because local government accountability doesn't happen by accident. It requires someone to show up at meetings, read the ordinances, file the records requests, and ask the questions that don't always get asked.
Jody Slabaugh, a La Porte resident, a repair shop owner, and a candidate for LaPorte County District 1 Commissioner, founded LaPorte.News. Jody has covered local government issues through investigative reporting, public records requests, and video journalism since 2015. His work focuses on how decisions made in county meeting rooms affect the people who pay the bills—LaPorte County taxpayers.
What we cover
- County government decisions — commissioners, council, drainage board, BZA, and related bodies.
- Economic development proposals and their real costs to taxpayers.
- Infrastructure projects, zoning disputes, and land use decisions.
- Public records and how your tax dollars are being spent.
